SHS AHS Tribute Comments

Seacrest/Atlantic High School has a wonderful, rich, and unique past, so let's use this blog to document our school's (Seacrest Blvd campus) history. Don't let your favorite SHS/AHS story go untold. What do you think of when you recall your high school years?

AHS Seniors - Again!

Guess who now qualifies for a discount at McDonalds! Hummm, "Senior" has a new meaning. (These are the only to confess that they now qualify - so far). My how time flies! Share your thoughts on what was foremost on your mind as a senior in HS and what's priority now (whatever your age)? (Happy Birthday to David Roundtree - May 22!)

SHS AHS Campus

In response to an email I sent out to some classmates about the demise of the SHS AHS building Wendy Knouse Devries reminded us that during high school we may have felt like celebrating the leveling of the school. Oh how our thoughts about high school have changed. Those of us who moved north look attending HS in S. Florida differently. As I look back (from IN) - I now see our SHS AHS campus was smack dab in the middle of a yet to be discovered (50's to the 70's) tropical paradise! Especially during the middle of an ice and snow laden winter, I'd love to walk the open halls and sun drenched court yards of SHS AHS. (Montage picture courtesy of Dr. James Scott McOwen, Seacrest Alum). So - when you think of the SHS AHS campus - what are your thoughts?

Words from 1970 ring truer than ever!

In his letter to his fellow seniors, 1970 Seacrest High School class President Paul Levin wrote; "The brevity of these years is astonising. It seems like yesterday we began our first class, timid, yet radiating an appearance of tremendous power and ability. As the years have progressed we have been forming a character quite our own. After much fear, uncertainty, success, and fun we now depart. It's not as simple as that though. The school has instilled memories that won't expire, and we have made a mark that the school can't erase."

1970. Seems like light years ago. But Paul was right. We still have our memories. Some funny, some not so funny. Most of us, thankfully, have some of both. As I say in my personal info, my favorite memory is Mike Vaughn, standing in the middle of the lunch room (1970) - beanie on - singing the school song full tilt (see pic - though we all know Mike has a great voice - I can't help but point out that Robert Baker has his finger in his ear!)

Where did the time go? What's your favorite memory? Let's do as Paul Levin said and keep SHS/AHS memories alive - post - and post often! Debbie Kolendo Wilson (AHS '72)
